Physical Description:

Common Eland are large savannah and plains antelope found in Eastern and Southern Africa. It is a species of the family Bovidae and Taurotragus. An adult male is around 5.2ft tall at the shoulder while, an adult female is around 4.5ft tall at the shoulder. Eland bulls can weigh up to 2,100 lbs with a typical range of 1,100 to 1,600 lbs, and 750 to 1,000 lbs for females.



Reproduction:

Females give birth to a single calf per breeding season.
Gestation period last 270 days (9 months).



Native Range Land:

Eland are naitive to Angola, Botswana, the Congo, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Nambia, Rwanda, South Africa, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe, but no longer present in Burundi. While the common eland's population is decreasing, it is classified as of least concern by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
