Physical Description:

Gemsbok are the largest species in the genus Oryx. They stand about 4ft at the shoulder. The body length can vary from 75” to 95”. Male Gemsbok can weigh between 400 and 530 lbs, while females weigh 220 to 460 lbs.



Reproduction:

Females give birth to a single calf per breeding season.
Gestation period last 270 days (9 months).



Native Range Land:

Gemsbok are found in arid and semi-arid bushlands in southwestern Africa, especially around the Namib and Kalahari deserts, in Botswana, Zimbabwe, Namibia, and South Africa.
