Physical Description:

The Sable antelope is sexually dimorphic, with the male heavier and about one-fifth taller than the female. The head-and-body length is typically between 75” and 100”.  Males reach about 45” to 55” at the shoulder, while females are slightly shorter. Males typically weigh around 520 lbs and females 490 lbs. Both sexes have ringed horns which arch backwards. In females, these can reach 24” to 40”, while in mature males they are 40” to 65” long.



Reproduction:

Females give birth to 1 calf per breeding season.
Gestation period last 270 days (9 months).



Native Range Land:

The Sables native range includes East and Southern Africa, from South Kenya to South Africa, with a separated population in Angola.
