Physical Description:

The head-and-body length is typically between 70" and 93" and the typical height is between 47" and 54". In this sexually dimorphic antelope, males are taller and heavier than females. Males reach roughly 50" at the shoulder, while females reach 47". Males typically weigh 437 to 578 lbs and females 355 to 472 lbs. Their coat colour varies from brown to grey. The long, spiral horns, present only on males, curve backward, then forward, and are 22" to 39" long.



Reproduction:

Females give birth to 1 calf per breeding season.
Gestation period last 240 days (8 months).



Native Range Land:

The Waterbuck is native to southern and eastern Africa (including countries such as Angola, Botswana, the COngo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania and Uganda) besides a few countries of Western and Northern Africa such as Chad, Ghana, Mali, Niger, Nigeria and Senegal. Though formerly widespread in sub-Saharan Africa, its numbers have now decreased in most areas.
