Physical Description:

The male (stag) Red Deer is typically 70” to 98” long from the nose to the base of the tail and typically weighs 350 to 530 lbs; the female (hind) is 62” to 84” long and often weighs 260 to 370 lbs. The shoulder height is about 36” to 52”. Only the stags have antlers, which start growing in the spring and are shed each year, usually at the end of winter. Antlers typically measure 28” in total length and weigh 2 to 3 lbs, although large ones can grow to 45” and weigh 10 lbs.



Reproduction:

Females give birth to 1 calf per breeding season.
Gestation period last 270 days (9 months).



Native Range Land:

The European Red Deer is native to Southwestern Asia (Asia Minor and Caucasus regions), North Africa, and Europe. But now can be found in several countries all around the world, including, New Zealand, Australia, Argentina, Chile, and the United States.
